How can some banks and states become too big to-fail? Why do companies need financial lawyers to produce self-driving cars? These are questions about the relevance of law for finance. Attending this LLM programme, you will learn to answer them, and why they matter to you both as an individual and as a member of society.
The Master’s programme Law & Finance at the UvA is a joint initiative of the Amsterdam Law School and the Amsterdam Business School. This Master is unique worldwide because it is offered by two faculties. Therefore, it provides truly interdisciplinary education at the intersection between law, economics and finance. During the programme students will gain a quantitative understanding of finance, along with in-depth understanding of financial and corporate law and their economic implications. Students will train to become the legal professionals of the modern world of finance.
In this Master’s programme, the Amsterdam Law School and the Amsterdam Business School join forces to offer a challenging curriculum. The main goal of the programme is to educate students in both fields of law and finance. It has the ambition to set a new and higher standard for what may be expected of financial lawyers, and therefore makes no concessions in its economics curriculum. The relevant subjects will be studied from a combined financial-legal perspective. You will therefore be taught to think and practice in an in-depth interdisciplinary manner. Be prepared for an intensive full-time programme, which includes active in-class participation and written assignments on both law and finance topics.
Do you like to be challenged and become a 21st century lawyer with transversal skills? A lawyer who has in-depth knowledge of the law governing finance, but complement this with broader knowledge, in particular of financial economics? Then this LLM programme is a perfect fit for you!
