Taalkunde van de Romaanse Talen

The Chair of Romance Linguistics is responsible for the BA and MA programmes in French, Italian and Spanish Linguistics at the Faculty of Humanities. It also collaborates to varying degrees with the programmes in Catalan, Portuguese and Romanian offered in the same Faculty. It coordinates linguistic research in these areas, within the research groups of the ACLC.

Boekdonaties van Catalaans Instituut

Op 27 november j.l. vond de officiële in ontvangstname van de boekendonatie plaats die het Institut d'Estucis Catalans (IEC, Catalaanse Academie) heeft gedaan voor de bibliotheek van de Faculteit der Geesteswetenschappen. Het betreft een vijftigtal exemplaren van publicaties van het Institut vooral over de Catalaanse taal en cultuur. De voorzitter van het IEC, prof. dr. Salvador Giner en de voorzitter van de Filologische Afdeling, prof. dr. Joan Martí, zijn naar Amsterdam gekomen om de boeken aan de decaan, prof. dr. José van Dijck, aan te bieden. Ter gelegenheid van de donatie hebben zij twee lezingen gehouden over het Catalaans en over Catalonië.

New PhD candidate at the Chair of Romance Linguistics

Hadil Karawani, who got her MA from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem this year, has been appointed on September 1st 2008 as a PhD candidate at the Chair of Romance Linguistics. She will be working jointly at the ACLC and the ILLC under the supervision of prof. dr. Josep Quer and prof. dr. Frank Veltman. The title of her project is ‘Mood for Modality: A Crosslinguistic Study of Mood as Means for Expressing Counterfactuality’.

New professor of Italian in Leiden University

Prof. Dr. Roberta d’Alessandro, recently appointed as professor of Italian language and culture at the University of Leiden, delivered her inaugural speech on September 9th 2008.

Dutch-Romanian dictionary

Elisabeth van der Linden is one of the authors of the Dutch-Romanian dictionary published by Pegasus. It was presented on June 12th at the Embassy of Romania in The Hague.
