Hendrik Casimir-Ziegler Research Grant for Alfred Zerres
The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and the Nordrhein-Westfälische Akademie der Wissenschaften und der Künsten (The North Rhine-Westphalia Academy for Sciences and Arts ) have awarded a Hendrik Casimir-Karl Ziegler Research Grant 2012 to Alfred Zerres. He will use this grant to work as a guest researcher at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) for one year.

UvA classicist writes commentary piece for Cambridge book series

Frank van Vree new dean Faculty of Humanities
The Executive Board of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) has appointed Dr Frank van Vree (1954), professor of Journalism and Culture, as dean of the Faculty of Humanities for a period of five years. The appointment is effective from 1 January 2012.

UvA celebrates 380th Dies Natalis
The University of Amsterdam (UvA) celebrated its 380th Dies Natalis (anniversary) on Friday, 6 January 2012. In the opening address, Rector Magnificus Prof. Dymph van den Boom spoke about promoting the distinctive features of Dutch universities. The philosopher Daniel Dennett then gave the Dies Natalis speech titled ‘Curiosity’.
