Henkjan Honing appointed professor of Cognitive and Computational Musicology

Henkjan Honing has been appointed professor of Cognitive and Computational Musicology at the Faculty of Humanities.

Hendrik Casimir-Ziegler Research Grant for Alfred Zerres

The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and the Nordrhein-Westfälische Akademie der Wissenschaften und der Künsten (The North Rhine-Westphalia Academy for Sciences and Arts ) have awarded a Hendrik Casimir-Karl Ziegler Research Grant 2012 to Alfred Zerres. He will use this grant to work as a guest researcher at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) for one year.

UvA classicist writes commentary piece for Cambridge book series

Dr. Irene de Jong, professor of Classical Greek Language and Literature at the University of Amsterdam, will become the first Dutch classicist to publish commentary in the influential Cambridge Greek and Latin Classics series.

Frank van Vree new dean Faculty of Humanities

The Executive Board of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) has appointed Dr Frank van Vree (1954), professor of Journalism and Culture, as dean of the Faculty of Humanities for a period of five years. The appointment is effective from 1 January 2012.

UvA celebrates 380th Dies Natalis

The University of Amsterdam (UvA) celebrated its 380th Dies Natalis (anniversary) on Friday, 6 January 2012. In the opening address, Rector Magnificus Prof. Dymph van den Boom spoke about promoting the distinctive features of Dutch universities. The philosopher Daniel Dennett then gave the Dies Natalis speech titled ‘Curiosity’.

Marita Mathijsen named supervisor of the year

Marita Mathijsen, professor of Modern Dutch Literature at the Faculty of Humanities, was named ICH Supervisor of the Year during an awards ceremony held on 19 December 2011

UvA Professor to manage restoration of renowned altarpiece 'Lamb of God'

Prof. Dr. Anne van Grevenstein-Kruse, Professor in the Practice of Conservation and Restoration at the University of Amsterdam, will during the coming five years manage the restoration of the renowned altarpiece 'Lamb of God'.
