ASCA's research program, which consists of more than 40 individual research projects/groups, is organized into five interrelating constellations. These constellations are neither hierarchical nor disciplinary. Instead, each constellation is thematically organized and works with a particular set of intellectual concerns and research methods. Overlap between constellations is not only recognized but encouraged. Most research projects within ASCA are affiliated with more than one constellation, and research staff frequently participate in multiple projects.
