- PhD-project on ‘Parts-of-speech systems and dependent verbs forms: a typological study.’ Started in September 2004.
The concrete aim of the project is to investigate the extent to which the existence and use of dependent verb forms can be predicted from the parts-of-speech-system of that language. In more general terms, the project’s aim is to supplement earlier studies in syntactic and morphological typology with insights from lexical typology, in order to arrive at a more integrated, holistic typology of language. The project is supervised by Prof. Dr. Kees Hengeveld and carried out in association with projects on parts-of-speech in situations of contact and acquisition (by Jorge Gomez-Rendon and Marian Erkelens respectively).
