The Amsterdam Center for Language and Communication focuses on the study of both functionally and formally oriented linguistic research.
The focus of the functionally oriented research is on the mutual relationship between language structure and language use and in particular on language-in-interaction rather than the study of linguistic structure in isolation.
The focus of the formally oriented research is on the field of generative grammar and directed in particular towards solving problems in the domains of syntax, semantics, phonology and morphology.
